Instead, you access the one-time boot menu that overrides the normal boot order that one time. In fact due to some fundamental differences in the way UEFI systems boot, some UEFI systems don't even list temporarily connected USB devices in their "permanent" boot order, so the one-time boot menu is the only way to boot from USB.ĭid you check your system's documentation to find out the appropriate method to access the one-time boot menu? In general you don't want to go into your BIOS and rearrange your boot order just for a temporary need to boot from USB. In general you don't want to go into your BIOS and rearrange your boot order just for a temporary need to boot from USB. Any ideas would be much appreciated as always. However, I am interested in the scenario where I do not have access to bootable laptop and wish to use the rescue fob to enter the recovery area.
#Windows 10 boot menu from cold start update
So the question. How to access my bootmenu? I could go to Settings > Update and Security > Recovery as there is an option there to reboot from USB. Also, the restarting and shutting down is much faster than it was. I did notice during the reinstallation process that the BIOS was updated as well. I have tried esc, F1, F2, F8, F10, F12 on a restart but the boot menu does not come up.

However, it seems I cannot get the bootmenu to come up (like it did when I was reinstalling Windows on it) in order to change the boot order to the USB. I would now like to test the Macrium rescue fob to be sure it works. I have created a Macrium image of the computer as well as a Macrium Rescue USB in case the fault (like the last one) prevents the laptop from booting.

If this happens again, I want to be more prepared so I bought Macrium. I had my data backed up but I did not have an image.

I have changed the disk and reinstalled Windows 10. Hi I have Dynabook A55-E that had a disk fault.
